22 pigs tested positive for African swine fever

The number of sick pigs was discovered at a household in (Cai Gia Tren hamlet, Hiep My Dong commune, Cau Ngang district, Tra Vinh province) owned by Ms. Tran Thi Phuong.

On September 27, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Cau Ngang district (Tra Vinh) said that previously, the district's Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Station had coordinated with the People's Committee of Hiep My Dong commune to verify the disease situation according to reports from local authorities.

At the farm of Mrs. Tran Thi Phuong (Cai Gia Tren hamlet, Hiep My Dong commune), 22 pigs were found positive for African swine fever , of which 4 died.

The origin of this herd of pigs was determined to be from Mr. Vo Thanh Luon's household (Nam Hai hamlet, Dai Hai commune, Ke Sach district, Soc Trang province) and was purchased online.

To prevent the spread of the disease, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Cau Ngang district has destroyed all pigs according to regulations and carried out measures to disinfect barns and the surrounding environment. At the same time, statistics on livestock density in the area surrounding the epidemic area were collected and discussed with the province's professional agencies for timely handling.

Mr. Nguyen Trung Hoang, Vice Chairman of Tra Vinh Provincial People's Committee, directed relevant agencies to strengthen the prevention and control of African swine fever in the province.

He requested the People's Committee of Cau Ngang district to mobilize all resources to thoroughly handle the outbreak according to the instructions of specialized agencies, in order to control the epidemic in a timely manner, not allowing new outbreaks to arise and spread. At the same time, the district will be responsible to the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee if the epidemic spreads widely, causing great damage.

The Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is also assigned to monitor and guide localities in implementing disease prevention work, in order to protect the health of livestock and ensure safety for the livestock industry in the region.
