Soybean planting reached 73.9% of the projected area for the 2022/23 crop, a percentage that exceeds the historical average, but is below last year amid a slowdown in work in the Midwest for lack of rain, said this Friday the consultancy Pátria AgroNegócios.

The average of the last five years for this period is 61.8%, while at this time of the previous cycle 78.1% of the areas were already sown, according to the survey.

“The slowdown in planting is a consequence of the expansion of the drought over the Brazilian Midwest. Pátria customers are already warning about the stoppage of sowing in parts of Goiás and Mato Grosso”, said the consultancy in a note.

According to Pátria, the return of the rains is necessary for field activities to be re-established.

Earlier this Friday, the Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics (Imea) reported that soybean planting in Mato Grosso reached 96.17% of the projected area for the 2022/23 crop, a weekly increase of 2.60 points. percentages.

The pace was delayed compared to the same period of the previous crop, with a difference of 3.35 percentage points for a cycle that was one of the fastest in the state, which is the largest producer of soybeans in Brazil, said the institute linked to producers.
